FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does zentr cost anything? +

Nothing during the beta. We'll name the release price once it's set.

Do I need an Apple Music subscription? +

Only for music and audio dramas from the Apple Music catalog; for those, zentr is integrated directly with Apple Music. Podcasts, YouTube channels and your own files work without Apple Music. Spotify can't be added because Spotify offers no interface for other players.

Which platforms are supported? +

iPhone and iPad are fully supported. Mac runs technically but isn't officially tested yet. No Android version planned.

When can I use zentr? +

Right now. zentr is in public TestFlight beta — open the TestFlight link and join directly while places are available. TestFlight is Apple's free app for testing new apps.

Is my data tracked? +

No. zentr has no tracking, no ads and no analytics SDK. For troubleshooting, anonymous crash reports and YouTube quota counts go to Sentry — no titles or search terms. Turn it off in Settings → Legal → “Send crash reports”. Your library stays on your device and — if you want — in your iCloud so you can use zentr across multiple devices.

Can I add my own files? +

Yes. Import your own audio drama folders or individual files via Share, from the Files app or through the zentr/Sideload folder in iCloud Drive. zentr keeps them in your iCloud Drive, so you need iCloud Drive turned on. Audio: MP3 · M4A · M4B · AAC · WAV · FLAC · AIFF Video: MP4 · MOV · M4V (H.264, HEVC or AV1)

How does YouTube without the algorithm work? +

zentr reads YouTube's public channel feeds. You pick the channels, zentr shows every new video chronologically. Playback runs in the official YouTube player inside zentr or in the YouTube app, set globally or per channel. YouTube isn't available in CarPlay.

Can I bring my podcast subscriptions? +

Yes. Export an OPML file from your current app (usually under Import/Export) and import it in zentr. Your shows appear right away; what you've already listened to isn't carried over.

Is there a kids mode? +

Yes. Turn it on under Settings → System → Kids mode with a four-digit parent code. Your child can then play everything in your favorites, with all episodes, but nothing new: Find, recommendations and similar artists are hidden, and Settings only open with the code. The code only applies to this device. Forgot it? Deleting and reinstalling zentr turns kids mode off. With iCloud sync on, your favorites, queue and progress come back afterwards; without it, the library starts empty.

TestFlight

Get zentr while the beta has places.

The beta runs through Apple's TestFlight app: get TestFlight, open the link, install zentr. Then it works with your Apple Music subscription, your podcasts and your YouTube channels.
